David Bowie Costume

Today’s costume is not so casual, but one I’ve been wanting to do for a while.

My first year doing casual costume, I planned to do the classic David Bowie with the lightning makeup, but I didn’t get to it. And I didn’t get to it last year either. Then unfortunately he died this year. After that, everyone was doing that makeup.

Instead, I decided to choose another David Bowie look. For this costume, I took the outfit from one, but did a different makeup that stood out a little better in photos.

And as an extra Halloween twist, I used skeleton hands!

The rest of the outfit just involved me doing a lot of cutting and also a lot of exercise in the weeks leading up to taking this picture.  Ok, not really a lot of exercise, I’m pretty lazy, so it was more like an hour lying in front of the TV each night, occasionally doing some push-ups and crunches.  BUT, I did cut out bagels for a while and some bad for you foods, so there was SOME effort on my part.

Casual Costume 10/11 & 10/12 Ace Ventura and Madam Mim

Here are my casual costume from Tuesday and Wednesday.

Tuesday was Ace Ventura.  I found the shorts and shirt at a thrift store and I was able to use the shorts for my costume of The Dude also.

Wednesday (today) is Madam Mim from The Sword in the Stone.  I don’t know about you but she terrified me as a child.

And yes, I realize I’m not wearing purple shoes, but I didn’t have any.  And then I was going to just photoshop these ones purple, but I was too lazy.  There, I said it.

Stranger Things Casual Costume

Like the rest of the world, I watched Stranger Things this summer and LOVED it.   How could I NOT do a Stranger Things character?  I  immediately started looking for an Eleven dress, but big surprise, it’s hard to find in my size.  I won’t stop looking though, maybe I can do it another year.  I’m sure this year it will be a very popular costume.

However, I did find one for my daughter!

For my costume, I did Joyce.  I really wish my face did expressions, but it doesn’t, so this is what I got.

Casual Costume Day 4 – Agatha Trunchbull from Matlida

My siblings and I loved the movie Matilda when we were growing up.  It’s definitely a classic for us, and now my daughter loves it too.  Dressing up as the Trunchbull was a no brainer for an awesome costume.

Also, this costume was really easy to pull together.  Blue skirt suit, brown belt, tube socks, done.

And I had some help from my daughter, who was delighted to dress up as Matilda.

Casual Costume Day 3: Annie Wilkes from Misery

“I’m your number one fan.”

Casual costume wouldn’t be complete without a few scary characters, it’s Halloween after all!

Today, I was Annie Wilkes from Misery.

This outfit is really what I was envisioning when I started casual costumes.  It looks like normal clothing (not MY normal clothing, but someones), so you wouldn’t know I’m dressing up unless you know the movie really well or have watched it recently.  Or unless I point it out and show you the side by side pictures.

Then again, maybe carrying around a big knife would tip some people off.
